Frequently asked questions.
What conditions do you work with?
We work with patients that have a range of physical conditions including but not limited to: Kyphosis, Lordosis, Scoliosis, Scapular Dyskinesis, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Bulged Discs, Sciatica, Cerebral Palsy, Tendonitis, Fused Spine, and more.
I’m looking for functional movement training, is this it?
Functional movement is particularly broad term which can mean quite a few different things depending on who you ask. Functional Patterns is a training system that encompasses everything one would expect from this realm: rehabilitation, strength training for sport, relevant movements to daily life and more.
IS functional Patterns (FP) the right approach for me?
FP has seen phenomenal results across the spectrum. From elite athletes down to elderly people suffering from Parkinson’s disease, individuals with cerebral palsy, children of all abilities and everyone else in between. FP official page shares a lot results from practitioners world wide, have a look here!
What is the movement elimination protocol?
When starting FP, we recommend that you cease other forms of exercise, as they may delay, tamper or even undo your results. If you were to run an experiment properly, you would need to be able to control all the parameters of said experiment, or else you would get skewed or straight up false results. Watch this video for more details here.
Does this mean I can’t do anything else?
At first glance it might sound like that, though there is nuance. If you’re playing a sport such as tennis, football, boxing or anything else that is generally considered quite a functional sport, we’re not asking you to quit it for ever. You would however need to prioritise your FP movements over your sport practice. Just because a sport is respects human movement doesn’t mean it can’t hurt you. Let’s say you get back pain after a long walk, or intense basket ball training… There’s something habitual you are doing that is sabotaging your experience of an otherwise great activity.
For now, steer clear from yoga and other mobility/stretching routines, Pilates, power lifting and traditional strength training, crossfit, excessive cycling or spin classes and other gym based activities.
How long does it take to obtain results?
This will really vary on multiple aspects. The depth of your dysfunction(s), your commitment to FP training with your coach and by yourself, your ability to tackle your problematic habits and so forth. So people have had jaw dropping results in as little as 4 months whilst other needed a good 18 months period.
dO YOU HELP WITH NUTRITION?
FP concerns itself with functionality of the body, the pertinent example here relates to abdominal wall retraction. A large amount of the population is chronically bloated which in turns leads to an inability to fire the core correctly. Our goal is to restore core function and nutrition is part of the task. Be prepared to tackle issues with alcohol and coffee consumption, as well extreme diets heavy on grains and plants.
I DON’T HAVE A GYM MEMBERSHIP NOR DO I WANT ONE, CAN I PRACTICE FP AT HOME?
Absolutely! You’d be pleased to hear that even with some minimal and affordable equipment such as resistance bands, you can get plenty done from the comfort of your home. Your coach will guide you on what to get so you can get going asap!
I’M WORKING ON THE 10 WEEKS ONLINE COURSE and/or fUNCTIONAL TRAINING SYSTEM, CAN YOU HELP ME ALONG WITH THAT?
Not only am I happy to help, you’ve just made this whole process easier by engaging with one of the best online resources you can ever get! If you’re unfamiliar with it, you can read about it here.
